Health Care and the Constitution

We’ve had some excellent articles and videos submitted by our readers recently. We’ll be posting them under the appropriate categories. Have you read a good one lately? Send it on it. Here is an article from one of our readers about Mr. Connelly’s take on the Health Care Bill as it relates to our Constitution. A 13 year old wrote an essay covering Mr. Connelly’s article and concludes:

“Is any of this Constitutional? No. It certainly is far from it. There is not a word in our Constitution that says the Federal Government should have any power to make any adjustments to our health care plans. In fact, the 9^th Amendment of the Constitution says, “The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.” This means that even if something is mentioned in the Constitution (which health care is NOT) people still have all their rights. And the 10^th Amendment tells the Federal Government “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.” This means that if the Founding Fathers forgot anything about what the Federal Government CAN’T do, well, they can’t do that either.

I am angry with them in Washington for breaking Constitutional Law. I hope you are, too.”

The Federal Government has spun out of control over the last decades. Few argue this point any longer. The sleeping giant of the American masses is awakening from its too long slumber. So what is to be done? How do we restore our Republic? We restore the law of the land, the US Constitution, beginning with the 9th and 10th Amendments. Be on the look out for formal petitions directed at our State Legislators.

A good number of folks have been calling our current situation all along. They latched onto Ron Paul during the Presidential Campaign because Dr. Paul was the only one speaking truthfully about our Nation’s problems. Many of his supporters are young Republicans providing an infusion of energy and realism that the Party desperately needs. This author agrees.

Dear Friends, Members, Precinct Chairs, and Executive Committee:

Fire is burning in the hearts and minds of true conservatives in our County. There is a very active group of sage conservatives who are ready to put the petal to the metal and get the ball rolling. We’re going to meet this Friday, August 7^th at 5:30 at the Brickhouse in downtown Granby. We’ll be joining together to voice our views, to define what we mean when we speak of being conservative, and to chart our path going forward. This meeting should not be missed. You’ll see some new and some familiar faces. Please come if you possibly can. Our strength lies in working together, one community and one County at a time. Without this strength, we stand little chance of turning the tide. Participation is our civic duty.

We’ll each pitch in $7 for a variety of appetizers and we’ll buy our own drinks. If the $7 is difficult for you, no worries. We’ve got you covered.

Here’s a local group worth keeping up with!

Maralyn writes: “Let me tell you about the local meetup that started up last night. We have three main directives whose goal is to Take Our Country Back: Education (we will continue to read, read, read as well as attend local meetings to educate ourselves on the local issues and how our elected officials are handling them.), Unification (we will embrace other groups with like-minded ideas for true reform in this county, state and country), and Election (we will take an active role in local and state politics seeking to first make a difference at home and use the groundswell to have a national impact.) Besides this, we will continue to attend tea parties and contact state and national politicians to let our voices be heard.

If you are interested in joining this group, please return an email requesting to be a part of the freedomfighters and we will add you to our list serve.”

And then she writes re: a current action alert: “Just got the site to access the healthcare “reform” bill—-all 1,018 pages! I have not read all of it–duh, neither have most of the ones voting on it! I can tell you that this bill will be job security for all of the attorneys that are currently in Congress and will be looking for jobs come election time–I hope! It is filled with all kinds of legalize and takes up pages and pages of just indexing and definitions.”

“Please consider making some calls to voice your opinion. When I call, first I always ask if the Sen or Rep has decided how to vote on the legislation I’m calling about. Then I give a couple of reasons I want to see the legislation pass or defeated. I keep it nice–you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar–and ask the aide to please present my plea to the Sen or Rep. Here’s a list of Dems and Repubs who are in a position to sway or be swayed on the healthcare bills. They are prime targets.”

Fellow Conservatives,

I have just returned from the World Economic Summit/FreedomFest event in Las Vegas. The best news I heard was Peter Schiff’s announcement that he is considering a Republican run for Senate. You may know Peter as the founder and president of Euro Pacific Capitol, Inc. (www.europac.net) or from the many videos of Peter predicting our current economic positions years ago. The talking heads of liberal news media laughed at him – but Peter was right, and his message is below.

To have Peter Schiff serving in the US Senate would be the measure of sanity we need, in the package of an affable, electable candidate. He combines real world, global financial savvy with a simple, principled approach to government’s role in the economy. Please consider supporting Peter’s decision to run and bring true free-market, real world economic knowledge and experience to Washington. I cannot stress enough what an enormous opportunity this is to bring reason and economic liberty to the Senate.

Ps. I was able to sit in on a small panel discussing Schiff’s strengths and other campaign considerations. One topic included the net financial loss that serving in the Senate would be for Peter, and other things that separated him from the crowd of career politicians around us. Most striking was the laughter from Schiff that he could not be bought by special interests for re-election because he didn’t want to be elected in the first place – he’s running because he has to in order to put an end to this madness and give America the truth about their money; and that is his sole motivation. That is the mark of a true statesman.

Either we get off our duffs and fight, or we’re toast. It’s that simple. Why is it that we were taught that to speak politics in mixed company is impolite. In fact, it is our civic duty to know and care enough about what is going on that we discuss the political landscape regularly. This was to be a government for and BY the people. How can it be by the people if the people remain mute? See this article here. The footage of the lions and water buffalo in Kruger National Park is stunning and worth the time in and of itself.

Free Markets are NOT to blame

Talking heads galore tell us repeatedly that the free markets and capitalism have failed us. What free markets? With private international bankers, accountable to no one, at the helm of our monetary system, and an over reaching government regulating every facit of our industries, free markets haven’t existed in years. Arm yourself with proper responses to their nonsense. Think for yourself. We’ll be providing copies of Wood’s and Murphy’s books to our libraries. You can find them there.
