one other thing - I asked him about using state legislation to buttress support for sheriffs and he had an interesting response - NO. The reason is that if you do it and it DOESN'T pass, you've put the legislature in the position of actually removing a power that sheriff's already have. He said a better way is for the sheriff to just do it - he ALREADY has the authority.

Good point...

I went to hear Sheriff Mack last night. I still have questions about his view, and the reality of where our local sheriff's are on this stuff, but Mack is the real thing.

What was amazing to me is that in tiny pagosa springs there were about 250 folks that came out to hear him talk.

In the end, I think he's right on. And his story is an emotional one, about realizing what his position of being a law enforcer had become in contrast to his oath. Pretty amazing stuff. And he read from Scalia's decision in his case, which is a clear definition on the authority of local law enforcement and their role in defending against federal usurpations. Neat stuff. I recommend picking up Mack's little book, "The Proper Role of Law Enforcement" where he talks about how he came to change his tune. Very touching, and a little creepy.

All in all VERY worth the trip way down to Archuletta county. On another note, the group had this event booked well in advance at the school auditorium. When the sheriff was invited as an honored guest, he not only turned down the invite but also called the school and had them pull the event, less than two weeks before the event and after many hundreds had already been spent on advertising. interesting... seems a bit reactionary to me. If I was a sheriff, even a bad one, I'd wanna be at these events so I'd know what's going on around my community. Weird.

Both Bloomberg News and Fox News are suing the Federal Reserve for information on how they have spent over $2 trillion in bailout funds. So far, the Fed is stone-walling.

Naturally. The Fed doesn't have to reveal anything and, in fact, has never been fully audited by any agency of the US government.

The Freedom of Information Act [FOIA] doesn't touch the Fed because the Fed is a private, for-profit bank with foreign as well as American owners.

Thank you, John. We have quite a battle facing us. The first phase is having a solid understanding of just what it means to be "Conservative." High Five!
