Welcome!

Grand County Republicans

Welcome You

The government, particularly at the Federal level, is out of control.  The debt being heaped on us, our children, and theirs can never be repaid.    The laws and regulations enveloping every aspect of our lives fly in the face of a freedom loving society.   The destruction of the principles on which our nation was founded have occurred over many years and through many adminstrations.   The destruction has been a bipartisan affair.  It is time we link arms, work together, share information, and hold every candidate and elected officials’ feet to the fire.    If they don’t understand the principles laid out by our Founders that were designed to maintain a powerful and free nation, then they have no business representing us.   Join us in our fight.   Share this site, share information with your family and neighbors, think independently, and participate.   An (R) for “Republican” behind a name is meaningless unless there is a profound understanding of the:

High Fives For Freedom!!

We are as proud of our differences as we are to agree on these five principles of freedom.  We call them them the “Freedom High Five” core principles.  They provide for our liberty to live by our own personal values and to promote them in our communities.  With this freedom comes huge personal and moral responsibility to our families, our neighbors, and our community.

Those candidates that we choose to represent us must have an intimate understanding of how these principles affect the quality of our government and must be willing to staunchly defend them in their everyday legislative efforts.  The core principles are:

  • The Rule of Law (Our Constitution)
  • Individual Liberty
  • Limited Government with resulting fiscal responsibility and  low taxes
  • Free Enterprise
  • Strong Defense of these principles and our Nation

Below are brief descriptions of each core principle with links to more information on each.  (Hint:  When you’ve read enough on one page, use your back key to return to the previous page.)

The Rule of Law Is the Rule of Thumb Rule of Law/Thumb
“Adherence to Constitutional Law is the most important component of the Freedom High Five – for without it we have no liberty and no country.” – Citizen Enabler

The rule of law in the United States ensures that the inalienable rights of the individual are not violated in the course of creating community through government (state legislation.) When lawlessness prevails in government, tyranny in society follows.

“The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people. It is an instrument for the people to restrain the government lest it come to dominate our lives & interests.” —Patrick Henry.

Liberty is Number One. Liberty is Number One
“Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect all who approach that jewel.” – Patrick Henry

The core purpose of a republican form of government is to defend individual liberty. Aside from the moral objections to the use of force, liberty creates prosperity, progress, innovation and a higher standard of living for everyone.

Limited Government:    Limited Government = Peace
“The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of the blessings. The inherent blessing of socialism is the equal sharing of misery.” – Winston Churchill

Our federal government was limited in its power by a republican framework which left most of the governing power in the hands of the people via the States. This is how a strong union was formed without sacrificing liberty. Our founders gave us a Republic, not a Democracy because they wanted to avoid the tyranny of the majority.

Free Enterprise: Free Markets = Free People
In a capitalist economy, the government acts only as a referee by protecting property rights, enforcing contracts, and prohibiting force and fraud.

Many believe that government regulations protect small businesses from big corporations but just the opposite is true – overregulation by government gives unfair advantage to those who can afford to circumvent or manipulate the law in their favor through lawyers and lobbyists. A true free enterprise system must be defended by simple laws which prevent force, coercion or fraud.

Strong defense of the first four principles: Self Defense
“We cannot defend freedom abroad by deserting it at home.” — Edward R. Murrow

Many think of ‘defense’ as purely a military consideration, but we go about defending the American dream through many means – sound foreign policy, support and defense of the rule of law, sound monetary and immigration policies, and good government, and above all by defending these principles at home first.
